My CAD is based on a symmetric medieval sword. There are various scorings throughout the sword that follow the same symmetric flow of the shape. I was motivated to design my pendulum in the shape of a symmetric sword because it allows for a center of gravity directly below the pivot point when at rest. The pendulum was open for creative freedom during the design process. While the other components, such as the escapement wheel, were fixed in design. While mapping out the pendulum, I had to verify the sword's blade was wide enough to hold the weights (bolts with nuts). The width was important because the structural integrity needed to be strong enough to support the total weight and the constant oscillating motion.Â
