Curriculum Vitae

Research Interests

I study affect, particularly focusing on the personal and interpersonal functions of social emotions such as jealousy, envy, embarrassment, shame, and guilt. My work examines the factors that cause these subjectively experienced negative emotions to have beneficial vs. counter-productive consequences, particularly in real world situations such as medicine and politics. My work also examines the complex relationship between emotion and cognitive processes. Additionally, I have a strong research interest in issues of methodology and replication in science, issues of gender, and issues of evolution.
