The AI-designed probes and primers were successful in identifying unique variants of Covid, as they were able to successfully detect the Delta and EG.5.1 variants. This means that our project can be used to identify new variants of Covid through a cost efficient and time saving method of utilizing AI to create PCR probes and primers. The success of the thermocycling for the RT-PCR machine indicates the potential of a low-cost, portable RT-PCR machine, possibly leading to the ability for these assays to be widespread in home and small clinics. Future work on this project could include testing the mini-PCR machine with real samples and writing a model to predict mutations before they occur.Â
