The objective is to develop a new analysis technique that is focused on the tissue types surrounding coronary vessels without and with atherosclerotic lesions. It will be achieved by the use of state-of-the-art imaging techniques in the human heart.
Atherosclerosis in coronary arteries is a high risk for heart failure. The current understanding of the mechanisms that lead to atherosclerotic lesions is incomplete.
It is uncertain why vascular lesions develop only at specific sites along the artery tree, but not at many other sites.
