Frequently Asked Questions about the Research Project


What is the purpose of the research?

The purpose of the research is to better understand how COVID-19 has influenced teachers’ work. It seeks to shed light on teachers’ lived experience of teaching during the pandemic and implications for the teaching profession. It is our intention to magnify the collective voices of k12 educators in the policy and public discourse.


Who is conducting this research?

The principal investigators for this study are Dr. Lora Bartlett (University of California Santa Cruz), Dr. Judith Warren Little (University of California Berkeley), Dr. Alisun Thompson & Dr. Lina Dawrich (Lewis & Clark College). The study has been approved by the Institutional Review Board at Lewis & Clark College.


How will the findings be disseminated?

A summary of the findings will be shared with all participants. We plan also to provide early stage briefings to professional organizations and educational leaders sharing insights gained into the teacher experience. Additionally, research reports and publications on the implications for schooling, equity, and the teaching profession will follow.


What data will be collected?

Data for the study are one-on-one open-ended interviews with educators.


When and where will the research take place?

Interviews will take place on Zoom at a time that is convenient for the participant.


What kinds of questions will be asked?

The questions focus on teachers’ experiences, opinions, and insights about teaching during the pandemic.


Is participation confidential?

Yes. Participation is completely voluntary and confidential. Teachers’ names and identifying descriptors are removed from any reports and publications. Protecting teachers’ confidentiality is of the utmost importance to the researchers.


Will participants be compensated for their participation?

We are unable to compensate for participation.
