Kelsey James is a first year PhD student in cognitive psychology and studies memory and learning. She presented at two symposia when she was an undergraduate at UCSB and is excited to see new students present their research.
Sam Hughes is currently a second year PhD student in social psychology researching human sexuality and social identity at UC Santa Cruz. He also has a formal background in political science, communication studies, philosophy, and Asian languages and literatures. He is excited to research and teach in order to work towards reaching social justice goals in the US.
Christy Starr is a fourth year psychology PhD student at UCSC. She is currently researching motivation and persistence among under-represented groups in STEM, as well as early sexualization's contribution to decreased interest in science and math. As a first generation college student from a low income background, she is passionate about increasing representation among academic fields -- particularly in terms of gender, race/ethnicity, and social class.
Tim Lou is a post-doctoral researcher in particle physics at UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research focuses on how new fundamental physics can be searched for at the Large Hadron Collider. He is interested in science learning, science education, and data science.
Charles Baxley is a current undergraduate intensive psychology student and research assistant in the Early Social Interaction Lab at UC Santa Cruz. He plans to pursue a career in either the social or developmental fields of psychological research. He is specifically interested in research related to overriding negative in-group effects.
Talia Waltzer has a background in psychology and cognitive science, and is currently a second-year phD student researching moral development and reasoning at UC Santa Cruz. Talia is passionate about creating educational opportunities for people through both basic research and applied work.
