In 2019, I started a new phase in my life, I moved to California, started my PhD and I am outlining my future research. Here, you can find some news and what I am envolved with. You can also follow my updates on twitter at @LouAlissa_bio
April, 2020 - I've knew that grad school is challenging but I could not imagine that my first year will be impacted by a pandemic. SO many plans canceled, so much going on...
Let's create new methods and systems to be productive working from home (so far I've learned that a bed desk does not stop me from naping)
January, 2020 - Starting my 2020 visiting San Francisco for the first time. Can you believe that I walked more than 32k steps in one day? I hope to came back many times!
October, 2019 - Good to be part of a community of incredible womxn at UCSC. I am learning so much about mentoring and leadership skills, and I hope to share my experience about grad school with undergrads interested in grad life.
September, 2019 - Starting my PhD at Suzanne Alonzo Lab this fall quarter. I am amazed by the Coastal Biology building and the incredible colleagues in my cohort.
August, 2019 - I arrived at UCSC before the fall quarter starts for a Grad Prep Program for international students. I met incredible people from all over the world during intensive tree weeks. We had classes about academic writting, scientific communication and academic skills. The best part? Finish with a poster fair where I share some ideas about the concept of sex roles in evolutionary biology.
March, 2019 - I had the opportunity to spend almost two months working - and living - at Bocas del Toro, teaching and guiding incredible students in their first experience in research. We study the interaction of forest disturbance and leaf cutter ants presence and behavior. I am glad about being part of the School for Field Studies stellar team for this briaf period.
