2024 KORET MENTOR AWARDEES
We are delighted to announce the 2024 Koret Scholar Mentoring Awards as part of our third cohort of award-winning mentors. These individuals were nominated by their studnets and chosen because of their tireless dedication to undergraduate student research and their willingness to go above and beyond for their student(s).
One student wrote, “Their mentoring stretched beyond research projects. Rather than focus on just research, there is a thorough understanding to prepare mentees for the future. They put thought into the projects assigned me to make sure I had enough breadth and depth in skills, knowledge, and experience. In addition, they picked projects that would require me to work with people with different expertise...”
In recognition of their work as a mentor to an undergraduate student, they will each receive a $1000 award.
Amy Argenal, Assistant Teaching Professor, Sociology
Kent Eaton, Distinguished Professor, Politics
"Kristopher's dedication to his project has been impressive from start to finish. I'm struck at the end of this research process by the fact that he has truly deepened our understanding of a very important but understudied phenomenon in Mexico: the criminal shock groups (or "porros") that have long used violence to inhibit student organizing in so many of the country's universities".
Jason Eshraghian, Assistant Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Emily Nazario, Ph.D. Student, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology
"Sam’s drive and natural curiosity distinguish him as an exceptional undergraduate researcher. His commitment to understanding complex concepts and new methods make him an overall excellent team member"
Sai Siddartha Maram, Ph.D. Student, Computational Media
Ali Shariati, Assistant Professor, Biomolecular Engineering
"Mentoring Clara has been such a rewarding experience. Watching her grow as a scientist and CRISPRing embryo models in the lab has been an amazing experience. Her dedication has been inspiring, and I can't wait to see what she achieves next!"
Andrew Skemer, Professor, Astronomy & Astrophysics
Meredith Stevers, Ph.D. Student, Molecular, Celluar and Development Biology
