This game is a passion project that led me to applying to college. It started with doodles in Microsoft Paint while I was at work, as seen below.
I owned a copy of RPGMaker 2003 and was curious about trying to make the game in it, so I drew up some walking and face sprites.
I made a mockup, playing around with the event programming and premade assets. The video below is a walkthrough of the prototype that I used to pitch the game during the FA24 capstone series.
After getting a team together, we proceeded to make the current playable prototype. I produced, animated, wrote, and programmed for it.
For the WI25 capstone series, I continued to work on Juice Warrior. This time we had the whole quarter to create a polished vertical slice of the game.
I pitched with the above video and was able to get another team together to continue working on Juice Warrior with me.
My primary goal for this particular prototype was to have it in a newer engine (RPGMaker MV) and to move away from default assets.
After brainstorming and figuring out the gameplay loop, we started working on making the fully unique assets.
I used a combination of Procreate and Aseprite to make the assets. I also worked on the bulk of the programming.
I continued to use Procreate for the illustrated components. Here are the facesheets for JJ and Jun respectively. As well as the opening sequence.
After 10 weeks of work, we were able to create a relatively polished vertical slice of what the full gameplay would resemble in a finished version of the game.
I still have plenty of inspiration to keep working on this, and hope to one day make it a fully playable finished game.
