Get to know the faculty mentors and research projects where you could spend your summer conducting cutting-edge genomics research!
PI: Aide Macias-Muñoz, PhD
Research Focus: Evolutionary Genetics & Complex Trait Evolution
Lab Website: https://macias.sites.ucsc.edu/
Lab Instagram: @cnidolab_ucsc
"This summer, our Genomics intern can contribute to projects investigating regeneration, eye development, neurogenesis, and neuroregeneration using Cnidarians. You will learn animal care, molecular biology techniques, and bioinformatics. If you are interested in evolution, genetics, and jellyfish we can also work with you to design an independent project."
PI: Rachel Meyer, PhD
Research Focus: Ecological Genetics & Conservation Genomics
Lab Website: https://ucedna.com/meet-the-team
Lab Instagram: @cal.e.dna
"This summer, our Genomics intern could participate in California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) fieldwork and labwork visiting watersheds all over California, sampling eDNA in water to build an indicator of stream health. There's significant public health and agricultural relevance here, such as looking at the impacts of cannabis agriculture on wetlands."
PI: Matthew Romero, PhD
Research Focus: Mechanisms of Skeletal muscle plasticity in health and disease.
