I care about active learning, inclusivity-focused approaches to education in STEAM and in the Planetary and Earth Sciences. My approach encourages in-class and community, identity building, and harbors intersectional, equity-minded, and asset driven mindsets. I'm excited about new technology that facilitates these approaches both in-person and remotely.

CITL Graduate Pedagogy Fellowship - Pedagogical Leadership Certificate (Winter and Spring 2021) – This certificate is awarded by the UC Santa Cruz Center for Innovations in Teaching and Learning (CITL) to graduate student peer leaders who complete a two-quarter professional development program in effective and equitable higher-education pedagogy, with a particular focus on the role of Teaching Assistants (TAs) in supporting equitable outcomes in student learning. The program requires completion of a 10-week course organized around the following research-informed areas: prioritizing equity-minded, antiracist, accessibility-aware pedagogies; understanding how learning happens; promoting active and collaborative learning; assessing student learning; and encouraging effective communication among members of a teaching team. In the second half of the program, participants design an interactive pedagogy course, workshop series, or peer mentorship program, and prepare to facilitate the professional development of graduate student educators in their fields.
UCSC Science Internship Program Mentor (Summer 2020 – present) – Remotely lead a team of 3 high school students through the concept, design, and execution of machine learning research and applied programming for mineral identification across the span of 10 weeks (primary project completion) and ongoing.
GEOPATHS Facilitator and Mentor (2019 – present) – Design and execute pedagogically sound curriculum in support of UCSC Earth and Planetary Science undergraduate classes as part of a National Science Foundation initiative that aims to foster science identity, community, and success for underrepresented students in STEM. Mentorship involvement includes availability as a professional, academic, and peer source of guidance for GEOPATH undergraduate participants.
GEODES Member (2018-present) – Geoscientists Encouraging Openness and Diversity in the Earth Sciences are a group of graduate students in the Earth and Planetary Sciences who are committed to cultivating an inclusive, diverse community within the department and geosciences at large. In pursuit of this goal, GEODES puts on programming aimed to build community within the department, raise awareness of issues known to limit participation and success of underrepresented groups in the geosciences, and provide professional development events for geoscientists at all levels.
