UC Santa Cruz Farm
The Raices Y Futuros conference was inspired by food justice work being done in Santa Cruz, and the Semillas Y Culturas conference held annually at UC Davis. The Food Systems Working Group (FSWG) is a student-run coalition which focuses on food systems issues at UCSC.
Our mission is to support the life affirming food system of the future. We see it as being built on justice and guided by Abolition which means that our agroecology, our organizing, and work must be anti-capitalist, anti-colonial, and transformative.
By Abolition we mean:
A better world is possible and that includes a food system which nourishes people and the planet.
We envision this conference as a grounds for cultivating hope and action towards food justice praxis. This includes building connections between disciplines and across communities so that we can engage in dialogue, build and strengthen coalitions, and ultimately work towards abolition and alternative institutions.
