Manya Balachander, International Rescue Committee, Oakland. During her field study, Manya was hired as a case worker with IRC and in this role has been continuing her work with refugee adjustment in Bay Area.
Virginia (Gina) Barba, Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP), NYC. Even after her field study ended, Gina continues to work remoted with ASTEP developing remote arts curricula for ASTEP’s global base.
Paloma Cuautenango, Mid-City Community Action Network (MCCAN), San Diego. Paloma honed her community organizing skills at MCCAN and assisted with local iniatives during the election.
Bredette Dyer, Terroir in a Jar, Santa Cruz. Bredette was affiliated with a food related low income start up affiliated with the Homeless Garden Project.
Siena Elvins, Downtown Street Teams, Santa Cruz. Siena contributed across the board with this social enterprise organization but her field study was noteworthy for reviving its women’s program.
Brandi Farrar, Santa Cruz Volunteer Center. Brandi took charge and revamped the food program so essential to lives of local senior citizen.
Jocelyn Fredell, Rails and Trails, Santa Cruz. Jocelyn’s pursued her interest in urban sustainability with a local organization attempting to revive an old rail bed to connect north and south county for commuting and recreation.
Bobbie Joe Garcia, MILPA, Salinas. Bobbie Joe returned to MILPA where she had previously interned to extend its community organizing model to the southern
Julissa Gonzalez, Santa Cruz Community Health Center, Santa Cruz. Julissa’s work on the Eastside of Santa Cruz involved several different departments, including COVID testing and contact tracing.
Roy Hernandez, Housing Matters, Santa Cruz. Roy learned about Housing Matters place within the local homelessness service complex and was hired as a case manager based on her superlative performance.
Jennifer Huerta-Morelos, Imagine LA, Los Angeles. Jennifer worked directly with Imagine LA’s family support and poverty alleviation programs
Sabrina Hunter, United Way, Corona (Orange County). Sabrina provided administrative support to the Executive Director and contributed to the organization’s domestic violence programming.
Cal Larisch, RYSE Youth Center, Richmond. Cal brought their knowledge and passion for youth organizing to RYSE and managed to incorporate their passion for math education into RYSE programming.
Lauren Lee, Mental Health Client Action Network, Santa Cruz. Lauren worked remotely to assist mental health outreach initiatives of this local nonprofit.
Elijah Leideker, Big Pictures Film, Berkeley. Elijah spent his field study conducting background research about microdosing for a planned documentary feature film.
Azucena Nava, Services, Immigrant Rights and Education Network (SIREN), San Jose. Azucena worked across this South Bay organization in its US Census and election outreach, and was hired on the basis of her strong performance.
Minh Nguyen, Pie Ranch, San Mateo County. Minh participated in Pie Ranch’s COVID food distribution enterprise and assisted the organization when it experienced significant damage during the CZU complex fire.
Emma Perry, Food Not Bombs, Santa Cruz. Emma’s field study included a highly successful men’s clothing drive to address a need Emma identified in her frontline work.
Lianna Romero, Heart of Los Angeles, Los Angeles. Lianna continues to work at HOLA where she provides mentorship in HOLA’s structured youth programs.
Rachel Ruiz, Acta Non Verba, Oakland. Rachel was hired during her field study with this innovative urban agriculture organization that provides income generation opportunities to Oakland youth.
Alyssa Serrano, Silicon Valley De-Bug, San Jose. Alyssa worked closely with the housing rights committee of the South Bay’s premier grassroots community organization.
Elias Shaffer, Our Families Coalition, San Francisco. Elias developed a curriculum based on the AIDS quilt for this established LGBTQ+ education and family support organization and had the privilege of viewing the actual quilt in its East Bay storage facility.
Maria Elena Terrazas, National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), San Francisco. Nena concentrated her efforts in the immigration department of this flagship organization and received acclaim for her many contributions.
Sarah Villanueva, Sierra Native Alliance, Auburn. Sarah engaged in wide ranging work with the local Native community with a special focus on youth. They were hired during their field study and continued working there beyond their six-month field study.
Julia Villarino, Farmworker Institute of Education & Leadership Development, Ventura. Julia continued her long affiiation with FIELD by working with its grant writing department.
Xiangyuan Wang, Xiao Yu Dian Public Organization, China. Xiangyuan engaged in a wide range of community work in China including education and health outreach. Along the way she gained many insights on the differences between the two nations in their approach to community development.
Wenyue Zhang, RakuLee Inc., San Jose. Wenyue learned a good deal about nonprofit management during her six months with RakuLee.
Jessica Zubia Calsada, Kindred Spaces, Los Angeles. Late in her field study, Jessica was hired to continue working with this community based doula and midwifery organization that works with the city’s African American community.
