In-Lab #2:
Draw the complete arrow-pushing mechanism for the synthesis of american flag red from 4-nitroaniline diazonium salt
In a 250-mL beaker, dissolve 0.2 g of 2-naphthol in 35 mL of water and add 5 mL of 2.5 M NaOH solution (warm on a hotplate)
In a 100-mL beaker, dilute the suspension of the diazonium salt from Part A with 30 mL of water
Ingrain dyeing:
Immerse an untreated fabric strip in the 2-naphthol solution (#1) for 2 min., stirring occasionally
Remove the fabric with tweezers, dry between paper towels
Transfer the fabric to the dilute diazonium salt solution(#2), let it stand for 5 min. at room temp.
Remove, soak in tap water, and then rinse until water runs clear
Result: american flag red (AFR)
