IR Spectrum of Starting Material – obs.

Before Analyzing the IR Spectrum:

1. Identify functional groups present

2. Write down corresponding bond vibrations (stretches & bends) from the IR table (below)

3. Write down the expected wavenumber ranges

   • any C=C or C=O stretches? is it saturated or conjugated?

   • any C-H bends (alkenes, aromatic compounds)? see Table 2 for narrow wavenumber ranges
