Students are invited to a Transforming Advising Student Town Hall on Monday, March 2nd from 4:30–5:30 PM in the Namaste Lounge.
This town hall will introduce UCSC’s Transforming Advising initiative and create space for students to share feedback, questions, and ideas about how advising can be clearer, more connected, and more supportive.
Transforming Advising is grounded in lived student experience, keeping the student journey at the center of what we discuss, prioritize, and create. Student perspectives are integral to inform this work.
Food and snacks will be available. All students are welcome!
The Sub-Committee Feedback Form is now closed. Thank you for your interest and support!
This form allowed members of the UCSC community to nominate someone (including yourself) to be considered for one of the Transforming Advising thematic sub-committees. Sub-committees will help develop recommendations grounded in student needs, on-the-ground experience, and practical implementation considerations.
Submission of this form indicates interest in being considered; it does not guarantee placement.
Form submissions will be accepted through Friday, January 23, 2026.
Restructuring undergraduate advising will affect every student, advisor, and the many people who support students every day. To design a model that truly reflects our campus, the Transformation Workgroup needs to understand the advising landscape from multiple perspectives: student experiences, academic advisors’ practice, and the insight of staff and faculty who work closely with students.
We are committed to a process that is informed by the people who use, provide, and partner with advising services.
We know that people feel comfortable sharing input in different ways. Feedback in all forms is welcome, including:
Online feedback form
Share comments, concerns, or ideas at your own pace. You may submit feedback with your name or anonymously.
Listening sessions and focus groups
The Working Group and its subcommittees will host targeted sessions with students, academic advisors, staff, and faculty to hear more detailed stories and suggestions.
Open forums and town halls
Campus-wide sessions will offer space to learn about emerging ideas, ask questions, and react to draft recommendations.
This site will be updated to reflect scheduled listening sessions, focus groups, open forums, and town halls.
We recognize that not everyone has the same time, comfort, or access to participate. As this work moves forward, we aim to:
Offer multiple ways to participate, both in person and online.
Create spaces where disagreement and critique are welcomed and taken seriously.
Seek out voices that may not be represented on formal committees, including students and staff who are often underrepresented in planning processes.
If you encounter barriers to participating or have suggestions for how engagement can be more inclusive, please reach out to co-chairs Yunny Yip (ydyip@ucsc.edu) and Carrie Haber (carrie@ucsc.edu). Your feedback on the process is as important as your feedback on the advising model itself.
