My name is Abhijeet Paluru, and I am a fourth-year student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, majoring in both Poltics and Global & Community Health. I am committed to social justice, healthcare equity, and public service, striving to apply my analytical thinking, leadership, and advocacy skills to address systemic challenges in healthcare. My academic pursuits focus on understanding both the legal and public frameworks that have shaped healthcare access. Integrity, diligence, and intellectual curiosity drive my approach to both academics and public service, reinforcing my dedication to creating meaningful change. My research experiences have played a pivotal role in shaping my understanding of these issues. I have worked on two research projects: one studying the correlation between malnutrition and environmental enteric dysfunction in developing children in rural Bangladesh and another analyzing the effects of climate change on migrant farmworkers in California’s Central Valley. These projects have deepened my understanding of vulnerable populations' systemic challenges and reinforced my passion for advocating for equitable access. Beyond academics, I have done advocacy work to help advance social justice causes. As a canvasser with Amnesty International, I worked to build support for the reproductive rights campaign following the fall of Roe v. Wade, further empowering my commitment to policy reform and human rights. This experience has bolstered my communication and problem-solving skills while reinforcing my belief in the power of grassroots activism. Looking ahead, I plan to pursue a career in law, specializing in healthcare policy and reform. My goal is to address the disparities in healthcare access by advocating for legislative and policy changes that prioritize equity. Through a legal career, I aim to ensure healthcare is accessible and fair for all individuals, regardless of socioeconomic status.
