Using Blender to Reconstruct Attenborites

The newly described Ediacaran fossil Attenborites janae was deflated upon death and burial, creating nonuniform ridges within the fossil specimen. This inflation simulation reinflates the fossil specimen to effectively reconstruct its original morphology as it would have appeared prior to deflation. This reconstruction was done using the 3D animation software Blender and represents the first time a soft-bodied fossil has been retrodeformed.
