NEW ZEALAND - Alpine Fault surface slip behavior

Greenland Group - Metasediments with granitic leucosomes

Me! Waikouaiti coast (east coast of South Island New Zealand)

Alpine Fault - Fault Gouge

I study the Alpine Fault in the South Island New Zealand. Using lidar to identify single event offsets, I characterize the surface slip behavior of the fault. Quaternary dating methods such as Carbon-14 and OSL are used to date offset features such as river terraces.

CALIFORNIA - San Andreas Fault slip rates

Multiple paleoseismic studies have shown that SAF slip rates change drastically in the Cajon Pass. It is a critical junction where high slip rates (~35 mm/yr) drop significantly (<24 mm/yr). I aim to constrain long-term and short-term spatiotemporal slip rates and reduce slip rate uncertainties in the Cajon Pass. I use lidar to identify offset features (streams and landslides), and Quaternary dating methods (radiocarbon, OSL, and cosmogenic radionuclides) to date the features.

Past Research

CHINA - Structural Geology

The Tian Shan is the second largest mountain range after the Himalaya. Deformation of the foreland basin varies along strike. I focused on the structural style of the western Kepintage fold and thrust belt to the south of the range.
