MR Geoffrey's Astronomy Challenge 2023-2024 Competition
3 annual awards to the team of students who accomplish one of the following (selected by a vote each spring by the membership securing more than 30% of the vote):
Contribution to the astronomical community
Awarded to the student(s) who make the largest contribution that is recognized by the astrophysics community.
Ex:
Discovery of asteroid(s) or other NEO,
Contribute data on variable stars,
Remote use of a research telescope,
Published in a scientific journal,
Present at a scientific conference,
Give MAV talks (TED style) to MRHS students on personal research,
Recognized for competition in Science Fairs or Science Olympiad for astronomy
Etc.
Onsite build project
Awarded to the student(s) who contribute towards the construction of an onsite, or district astrophysics project.
Ex:
Dual dipole radio telescope,
Horn radio telescope,
Solar telescope,
Astronomy galleries highlighting astronomical phenomenon or objects [such as black holes, globular clusters, star formation, etc.).
Etc.
Educational contribution
Awarded to student(s) who perform outreach events to educate younger students, peers, or the community on astronomy and cosmology
Ex:
Coordinate star parties,
Educational outreach to local elementaries
Astronomy Science Stories shared with a local elementary(s),
Coordinate educational component of Fall Festival, or similar event,
Give MAV talks (TED style) to MRHS students on current research,
Participate in astronomy summer camps, or similar,
Etc.
