Auditions

At the start of the show, we join Prince Eric on the open sea, sailing with a crew and his valet, Grimsby. He and his crew are perusing a mysterious voice, that seemingly came from nowhere.

Below the waves, in the secret underwater kingdom of Atlantica, Sebastian the court composer, and a crab, presents a concert for the intimidating King Triton. Singing in the concert, are his seven, mermaid daughters. However, the youngest daughter, Ariel, is mysteriously absent from the performance.

We meet Ariel and her best fish friend, Flounder, at the surface. Ariel has gone to meet Scuttle, a zany seagull and self-proclaimed expert on "human stuff", to discuss the new treasures she had found for her collection. Little do they know that they are being watched by Flotsam and Jestsam, the eel spies who work for the sea-witch, Ursula. 

When Ariel returns to court, her father discovers where she has been. Furious with her for going to the surface, which is forbidden, he appoints Sebastain to be her chaperone from there-on-out. 

Sebastian follows Ariel to her secret grotto, where she keeps her collection of treasures from the human world. After trying to convince Ariel that life in the sea is better than on land, a ship passes by. Ariel follows it, just as it's swept up in a terrible storm. Prince Eric is sent flying overboard and Ariel comes to the rescue.

Once safe on land, Ariel sings to the unconscious Eric before she is forced to return back to the water. Eric wakes to find his rescuer is nowhere to be found.

Back underwater, Ariel's sisters discuss her odd behavior with Flounder. They come to the conclusion that she is in love, which is overheard by King Triton. Wanting to know more, he asks Sebastian, who accidentally let's slip everything that happened at the surface. King Triton confronts Ariel in a rage and destroys her human collection using the power of the triton.

Ariel is left alone in despair, when Flotsam and Jestsam return. They manipulate her into going with them to visit her aunt Ursula. At the sea-witches lair, Ursula makes Ariel a deal in return for her voice. She offers to turn Ariel into a human for three days. If she can get Prince Eric to kiss her by sunset on the last day, she will remain human. If not, she will turn back into a mermaid and belong to Ursula. Seeing no other options, Ariel agrees.

The next morning, on the beach. Eric finds the human Ariel. At first, he recognizes her as his rescuer, but upon realizing she cannot speak, determines that it could not have been her. He takes her back to his castle. Sebastian follows but becomes lost and winds up in the kitchens with a very enthusiastic chef.

After dinner, Eric and Ariel dance, but are interrupted by the sound of Ariels stolen voice on the wind. Eric admits that he is determined to find and marry the person to whom the voice belongs. The next day, Eric takes Ariel on a boat ride. They nearly kiss, but Flotsam and Jetsam intervene. The third day, Grimsby arranges a singing contest in hopes that Eric will find a bride. Unable to sing, Ariel dances for Eric. Realizing his feelings for Ariel, Eric dismisses the others and calls off the search for the mysterious voice just as Ursula arrives. Ariel has run out of time and is forced back into the sea.

King Triton arrives at Ursula's lair looking for his daughter. He agrees to hand over his triton in exchange for Ariel's freedom. The witch uses her new magic to banish him to the depths. Eric arrives to try and help but is caught in a powerful whirlpool of Ursula's creation. In the chaos, the magic shell is smashed, and Ariel regains her voice. Ursula loses control of the triton and is destroyed.

With the power of the triton, Ariel restores her father as king. Her father, now understanding Ariels feelings, grants her wish. She is transformed permanently into a human and greets Eric on the beach. She sings to him, and Eric realizes that she and the mysterious voice he had been searching for were one and the same.
