Gleaner--North Pacific Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Magazine
The Gleaner is a gathering place with news and inspiration for Seventh-day Adventist members and friends throughout the northwestern United States. It is an important communication channel for the regional church support headquarters for Adventist ministry throughout Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
While working for Washington Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, I contributed five articles every two months. These articles covered event news through research, interviews, and onsite reporting. These are examples of my work.
Event Photography
Throughout my 2-year internship with Washington Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, I have acted as the main photographer for a variety of organizational events. After each event, I use Adobe Lightroom to do minor, ethical photo editing (mainly focused on adjusting color and light issues). The photos are compiled into a public gallery for general use. The best photos are then used for social media posts, articles about the event, and future advertisements.
More of my event photography can be found at washconf.smugmug.com from 2023-2025. Photos that I took will be titled "LGS."
My preference is to take close up pictures from across the room with a telescopic lens. This helps people stay natural and prevents any awkward stiffening or odd posing. Close ups also allow for a more dynamic image than wide angle shots are typically able to.
Thesis
In 2022, I wrote a thesis utilizing Cohen's Monster Theory to understand Stranger Things' season 4 villain Vecna and how he functions in society. The piece won the Union College Board of Trustees 2023 Writing Awards for Upper-Division Research Writing.
The Clocktower is Union College's student newspaper. In the 2020-21 school year, I wrote satirical Lifestyle articles to give a nuanced feel to my column. These are a few examples of my work.
