Why STEM ---> STEAM?
The District added the arts to STEM in 2022. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. Why STEAM? Simply put, nearly all innovation in STEM couldn't happen without a healthy dose of the arts. Take Michelangelo, a Renaissance artist who created enduring pieces of sculpture, frescoes and paintings viewed by millions. But Michelangelo was also a scientist, engineer and mathematician who put his skills to work as an inventor. The arts are a foundation of STEAM. They help us envision future innovation, unlock creativity and enable new ways of thinking.
How it will work
We are asking students, community partners and staff to sign up now to have an interactive table during the event. We need your STEAM minds to develop fun and engaging models, exhibits and presentations that open up pathways to great thinking engaged in science, technology, engineering, art and math.
Presenters/Partners: Sign Up NOW!
Students/Families:
Mark your calendars NOW and plan to to join us for
STEAM at U. City Schools
Mission: provide authentic STEAM experiences that are relevant, meaningful and accessible for all students.
Vision: Every student at every grade will have at least one relevant, meaningful STEM experience.
Growth: Since implementation of a STEM program in 2012, the District now provides a wide array of STEAM inspired experiences and coursework starting in preschool and continuing through graduation. Increasingly, all students have equitable access to STEAM activities, courses and real-world experiences. STEAM in University City reflects the meaningful integration of content, complex thinking, application and problem solving so our students are prepared for both future careers and future coursework upon graduation.
