In 1676 scientist and inventor of calculus claimed that, "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." Nobody creates or invents anything in isolation. Generations before us have laid the foundation for our success. These "giants" are grandparents, neighbors, friends, aunts, father, uncles, and mothers. Without the work of all of these people in our story we would never be able to secure our place in history. This semester we will read about one such giant, Buck O'Neil, and learn more about the shoulders that we stand to see further and reach higher. (Especially Ms. Mcpherson who can't even reach the top shelf.)
Whose shoulders do you stand on?
After reading and analyzing Soul of Baseball students will conduct an interview with a family member or friend whose history is intertwined with their own. The interviews will be published as a video on the Internet.
