I've also included each species' lore that I've written up for them in our original Character + overarching lore documents.
The main gist of Queen's Botanical is the maintenance of species that are both revered as "Ascended" beings and regarded as monsters. These species are sent from around the country, and you are tasked to take care of these beings.
In each design, I tried to incorporate some misunderstood Flora and Fauna in terms of the species. I aimed for more native species according to the region, though there were some considerations for invasive species. They are meticulously crafted from detail to detail - including natural and unnatural colors and features - to give the player both the sense of comfort from nature and a looming sense of intimidation known as the Uncanny Valley. he unsettling and unpredictable behaviors should balance out the comfort in which a player gets from their proximity.
June O’Brien was found dead in his backyard. His mother found his decapitated body and immediately notified the police upon discovery. Officials found suspect I-53 300 meters away from O’Brien’s home, consuming the victim’s head.
The victim’s loved ones note that O’Brien was mainly a good individual, but didn’t care for wildlife. His friend had noted that O’Brien had crushed a praying mantis the day before, and immediately upon doing so, he had begun to “act differently,” with most notable observations being: Sweating, pale skin, anxiety, restlessness, inexplicable fear.
Officials also confirm the same symptoms when they processed I-53. They could not try him in court or interrogations due to lingering dread.
Notes from Retrieval:
Comments from officials often come to the same observations: I-53 had been surprisingly cooperative, and was even regarded as “one of the most polite murderers.” I-53 had been safely escorted to quarantine without incident.
I was considering multiple animation softwares such as Live2D or Blender. However, I felt as though the "jaggedness" of movement suited I-53. After owning a few mantids I notice how they move both fluidly and suddenly, with curiosity in environments (and even people!) making their heads turn and lock in like chickens' heads.
I-53 has a "true mouth" that had to be illustrated. It is located under the "chin," which aims to be the Mantis' mouth which this specimen uses to eat. The mouth that is usually visible is used for speaking, or at least imitating speaking patterns.
One of my mantids did a Threat Display. It involved them opening their lip to reveal the black interior of their mouth.
Initial animation guideline I provided Programming on the basis of how I-53's behavior system can be implemented in-game
Animation guideline provided to me by Programming on the basis of how I-53's behavior is currently being registered in-engine

The Hairflip animation was very complex and made me make 3 more heads (oblique upwards, upwards, slight upwards)
Listening animation (made before hairflip) added oblique downwards and slight downwards.
Claimed from Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota.
Chippewa Forest, the forest in which this specimen originated from, had been destroyed due to a fire in 2032. Documents indicate that this fire has been caused by arson. Witnesses all state they heard a single “blood-curdling scream” and positively identified this specimen as the source. Speculation says that C9’s haunting call spoke for all trees without a voice.
Notes from Retrieval:
Locating the specimen was not difficult due to it being the only surviving tree of the forest. 1 injured during the quarantine process due to its unorthodox behavior.
Upon discovery, C9 was reported to be “as still as trees can be.” C9 was badly burnt at the time of this incident, and was particularly hostile to armed police. However, they complied with the fire department, and even understood orders. When escorted to the transportation vehicle, C9 attacked the vehicle. The intention was unclear at the time, though experts in Queen’s Botanical conclude that flammables are the source of its stress and displeasure.
Original design of C-9: This was othe very first concept done of QB, and it was done during the first month of KURU's development. I didn't really care for silhouetting first other than trying to scare myself with my own drawing (which was my standard for any monster ideation in QB.)
