Alessandra Pantano

Dr. Pantano received her undergraduate degree from the University of Rome, Tor Vergata (Rome, Italy) and her Ph.D. from Princeton University. She did postdoctoral research at Cornell University and joined the faculty at UCI in 2007. Her original training is in Unitary Representation Theory, but recently her research interests have evolved towards Mathematical Education, in particular, active learning and culturally responsive pedagogy, both in the classroom and in after-school settings. Dr. Pantano is a passionate and dedicated instructor. In addition to contributing to the educational mission of the Math Department at UCI, in the past ten years, she has initiated and developed a number of outreach activities for middle and high school students in the community, including the UCI Math Circle, UCI Math CEO and UCI Math ExpLR. Dr. Pantano truly enjoys mentoring, and currently serves as DECADE mentor for the Math Department at UCI and UCI Inclusive Excellence Professor. Over the years, Dr. Pantano has received several recognitions for her teaching, service and mentoring.Â
