Dr. Tayloria Adams

Dr. Tayloria N.G. Adams is an Assistant Professor and Henry Samueli Career Development Chair in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (CBE). She is also affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Engineering and a member of the Sue & Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center. Her lab focuses on using electrokinetic techniques to develop membrane capacitance and other cellular properties as reliable label-free biomarkers. She holds patents for her discoveries, was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow and UCI Chancellor’s ADVANCE Postdoctoral Fellow and recently earned a prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation and an award from the University of California Cancer Research Coordinating Committee. Adams’ goals in the academy are two-fold, one is to contribute to the stem cell scientific community by developing engineering tools for cell sorting and analysis to advance human stem cell therapies. Secondly, she would like to increase the number of minoritized students pursuing STEM degrees. Adams serves as the Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience (DECADE) mentor for CBE and she is the faculty advisor to UCI’s graduate student chapter of the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemist and Chemical Engineers. Adams is an advocate for students, a strong proponent of diversity, equity, and inclusion and will continue to engage in this work in every aspect of her research.
