Dr. Nancy Che Mahan is an associate math faculty at Long Beach City College.
She graduated with a B.S. in Mathematics at University of California, Irvine with a minor in English, a M.S. in Applied Mathematics at California State University of Long Beach, and earned her Doctorate degree in higher education leadership after writing her dissertation on “Innovations in Remedial Mathematics.” Dr. Mahan has taught college mathematics at UC Irvine, Cal State Long Beach, Santa Ana College, Long Beach City College, and several online schools across the nation.
Prior to her teaching career, she worked in the mortgage industry as a senior processing manager and as an underwriter. Her career path also includes teaching conversational English in Japan, working with a non-profit organization to serve college students, and account executive sales.
Dr. Mahan pursued teaching mathematics because she loves working with people and seeing their development! She understands that math can be so intimidating and difficult, and she enjoys boiling it down into simple, step-by-step, non-intimidating strategies. Overall, Dr. Mahan is a teacher at heart that enjoys working with people and cares for their progress. She believes in creating a class environment in which students get to know one another and experience the “community” part of college.
Outside of her career, Dr. Mahan is a single home-school mom to her 9-year and 12-year boys. She is an avid traveler, beach volleyball player, hiker, and enjoys nature.
