Matt Montegary is a Professor and Mathematics Instructional Specialist at Long Beach City College. After receiving his MS in Applied Mathematics in 2016, he went directly into teaching at various community colleges in Southern California. In addition to teaching, he focuses on innovative programs, pilots, and resources aiming to increase success rates in mathematics and statistics courses. Such initiatives often include collaborating with other groups on campuses, including areas like Athletics, First Year Experience programs, other STEM discipline departments, and various other student services areas and student groups.
His current role as Instructional Specialist for the LBCC Math Success Center continues this work, supporting students and their success institution-wide and across all levels of the discipline. This means working to keep success in math and stats achievable and accessible while also aiming to spread a sense of belonging and mattering to all students engaging with the STEM fields, however briefly, on their educational journey.
