Joanna Haan is a professor of Chemistry and department co-chair in the Long Beach City College (LBCC) Physical Sciences department. At LBCC, she is involved in curriculum development to promote equitable student success and affordable access to higher education. Her activities include: working with a team to develop a pre-semester workshop for Elementary Chemistry students, participating in the LBCC Cultural Curriculum Audit workshop, completing online teaching certification, serving on the Online Education committee, and engaging in community outreach activities. For the past fifteen years, she has also been creating and using free laboratory and lecture resources in General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry (Chem 3), and recently began collaborating on similar free resources for Elementary Chemistry (Chem 2).
Prior to working at LBCC, Joanna was a chemistry instructor at several universities and community colleges across the country, an experience that introduced her to a wide range of students and many styles of teaching and learning. She grew up in southern California and earned her BS Chemistry at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and MS Chemistry at University of Florida.
