Some Notible Events :
At the 1976 City Council meeting, important matters relating to the LGBT community were discussed, such as discrimination, prejudice, and police procedures. Better understanding and communication with the gay community is crucial, as noted by a number of community members and officials, including leaders from the Orange County Business Coalition and the Human Relations Commission.
The S.O.B. Tea Dance, a major social event for the LGBTQ+ community, took place at The Mug on June 18, 1978. There was an admission price for the event, and motocross was supported in part by the money raised.
The Mug (Gay Bar)
This is not a souvenir of the bar but the closest thing I can find that has a somewhat rainbow color/ Gardengrove name/ and a mug. IK...
The AIDS epidemic of the 1980s was a terrible medical emergency that disproportionately impacted gay males. There was a lack of public knowledge about the illness, and fear and false information were widespread. As the community responded to AIDS, gay pubs like The Mug played a crucial role in bridging the gap between their social duties and the pressing need for assistance and information. Activists from the bar were recorded on an article dressed in white T-shirts with the message "Make the commitment. STOP AIDS," visited several bars along Garden Grove Boulevard to engage patrons in conversations about safe sex practices and invite them to a discussion group. Which in the end, despite facing resistance and indifference from some patrons, the volunteers succeeded in signing up 144 people for a discussion group.
