Joining Humanities Core during the Winter quarter lead me to develop my knowledge of subjects in a deeper level than I was typically used to. Due to not starting this course series at the beginning, I felt behind right as a started, almost like I had to keep running—while others were walking—in order to catch up. However, this made me work ever harder and I am proud of myself for taking on this challenge.
While tackling this obstacle, I was lucky enough to have quickly discovered that developing this website could embody much of my artistic passions. I was able to find my ideal set-up when I created this website—which is incorporating my own style into my work. I have therefore enjoyed the process of doing so by drawing certain elements and choosing a color palette that represents my personality. For my website I use a variety of forms to make it multimodal, often choosing a specific mode based on what would be best to complement and provide evidence for what I am stating in the text. My favorite form I used is when I decided to draw or write by hand (e.g. this cover page and when I demonstrated how I annotate). This to me made the pages feel even more personalized and I know I will be keeping this aspect in mind for future tasks I do. I established ethos through the creation of my website by how confidently I presented all my topics and how well I elaborated on the subjects. Because of this, the audience views me as a reliable source for what I present on my website; in my essays I demonstrated this too. Although not multimodal, I used a very similar approach when constructing my arguments and supporting my claims to develop my credibility. The tone I used in my essays differ from the tone in the website as the essays are more formal creating a less intimate relationship between the author and reader. Even though I took a different approach in the way I communicated the information, the method I used to demonstrate my credibility remained the same.
