One Step at a Time.
From lay positions at MCC in San Diego and being an assistant pastor of MCC in Los Angeles, Dennis Chappell built himself up to finally being the Pastor at Christ Chapel MCC in Santa Ana.
His influence and leadership led MCC to unprecedented growth with over 100 or more in attendance at his Sunday Services every week.

Hosting the installation at First Presbyterian Church and having a notable speaker like former professional football player David Kopay highlighted a broader acceptance and collaboration within parts of the wider community. Kopay’s participation brought attention to the intersection of sports, sexuality, and faith, furthering the discourse on LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance.

Proceeds from the banquet dinner were allocated to support Christ Chapel's ministry to Gay and Lesbian Christians. Similarly, Dennis Chappell led the church to host many social events and choir performances to fundraise. Efforts like this were crucial for maintaining the resources needed to address the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, particularly during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.
