Take a look at our findings!!!
We tested our prototype with a diverse group of mainly UCI undergraduate students across different years, majors, and levels of campus engagement. Participants included first through fourth year students studying fields such as Public Health, Business Administration, Business Economics, Biological Sciences, and Informatics. Some were frequent users of campus tools like WebReg, Canvas, and DegreeWorks, while others were less familiar or had recently started seeking academic support. These users were candidates for our evaluations because of their issues with current resource hubs: they found difficulty in navigating outdated platforms, trouble locating department-specific resources, and a desire for a more centralized and user-friendly way to access campus services. This range of users helped us better understand the needs of both highly engaged students and those looking to become more connected with UCI’s resources.
Plus sign confusing (recommended change to heart icon)
Chatbot should be made more visible (high priority - multiple complaints)
The search bar could be more visible (slight size increase)
A home button on the search page is needed
One user did not like the post feature, could be replaced with a liked resources tab (as there is no current place to see liked/saved resources)
Ensure page consistency
The login Feature should be more centrally located
Multiple Language options/a button to do so
Slight font increases for 5 category tabs (minor increase)
After an user evaluation, a user mentioned that they didn't find purpose in the "Posts" feature, so we changed the "Posts" button to "Saved Resources" because it makes it more clear for users and allows for users to easily reference the resources they favorite.
After a user suggested that the plus sign that previously was in place of the heart was confusing, we decided to change it to the heart to make it clear to users that they can favorite the resources they like the most.
After testing with users who struggled to find specific resources, we enhanced the search bar functionality to support keyword matching and partial queries. We also placed it in a more visible area of the home page
After feedback from users who struggled to see the chatbot, we decided to remove the automatic minimization(and removed it completely) and better center the chatbot to make it easier to see
After receiving user feedback on the search page's lack of a home button, a decision was made to add one. To do this, the page was reformatted to have a similar heading to the 5 main category pages.
Based on the feedback from users it was decided that it would be beneficial to increase the font size for the 5 main categories. The font was brought from size 24 to 28, making it easier to read without major structural changes to other elements.
