Workshop on Linguistic Minorities in Asia

This workshop follows the success of the inaugural University of Chicago Language Research Forum, which took place in March, 2017. The second forum meeting will have a thematic focus on “Linguistic Minorities in Asia” and it will take place on March 22-23, 2019 at the Hong Kong Jockey Club University of Chicago Academic Complex | The University of Chicago Francis and Rose Yuen Campus in Hong Kong.

The workshop aims to provide a forum to discuss specifically issues concerning linguistic minorities in Asia. Topics to be covered will include not only socio-political questions such as how minority languages are valued, by whom, and under what conditions, and how answers to the preceding questions influence how speakers utilize and react to minority languages, but also linguistic investigations of the minority languages, covering all aspects of their grammars.
