Shireen Hamza

Shireen Hamza is a PhD Candidate in History of Science at Harvard University. Her dissertation is a reassessment of the concept of “Islamic medicine” by studying Galenic and Ayurvedic medical texts composed in Arabic and Persian between the 13th-15th centuries, across the Indian Ocean World. Her work has been supported by the Social Science Research Council (2019-2020) and the Fulbright Commission (2021).

Samantha Pellegrino

Samantha Pellegrino is a PhD candidate in Islamic Studies at the University of Chicago Divinity School. Trained as a historian of gender and religion, her research focuses on medieval Islamic occult sciences, with a particular emphasis on alchemical texts. Her dissertation takes up the relationships between artificiality, artifice, and divinity in the Jābirian corpus.

Mariam Sabri

Mariam Sabri is a PhD Candidate in History with a Designated Emphasis in Science & Technology Studies at UC Berkeley. Their dissertation, titled ‘Telling Time: The Exact Sciences, Everyday Culture and Empire in Early Modern India” examines the role of astrology, particularly zij manuscripts, in ordering socio-political life in the Mughal empire. Their research is supported by the Social Science Research Council (2021) and the Fulbright Commission (2022).
