Q: What is an audition?
A: An audition is when you perform some music and scales to see which orchestra would be a good fit for you. All students will PASS!!!
Q: Why do you have auditions?
A: Several reasons! These meetings:
1. Help me get to know you on a personal level.
2. Allow you to ask any questions you might have.
3. Give me a chance to hear you play.
4. Help me place you in the right lesson group on day 1.
5. Give you a chance to share your goals for this year.
Q: How do I sign up for an audition time?
A: I've already signed you up! See the schedule below.
Q: What if I accidentally miss my audition time?
A: Communication is key! Just email me right away and we will set up another time for you.
Q: What music do I play?
A: You will play a scale of your choice and a piece that you feel comfortable playing. The piece may be something that you are working on with a private teacher or something you played in orchestra last year. You will also be asked to sight read some music as well.
Q: Do I have to play a scale?
A: Yes, please! We play scales a lot in orchestra, so it is helpful for me to know that you can play (or try) at least one.
Q: Do I have to play everything perfectly? If I mess up, am I kicked out of orchestra?
A: Absolutely NOT! Mistakes are welcome. It's how we learn! I will never kick anyone out of orchestra for making mistakes.
Please be prepared to play a piece you are working on in your private lessons or something from last school year. You will also be asked to play a scale of your choice and to do some sight-reading as well.
