Pole dancing has many benefits such as physical fitness, confidence, empowerment, fostering expression and creativity, and community support. As a full-body workout, it improves strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination, targeting various muscle groups such as the core, arms, legs, and back. Regular pole dancing sessions also provide a great cardio workout, enhancing heart health and increasing stamina. Beyond physical benefits, many find that pole dancing boosts self-confidence and body positivity, with the challenge of mastering new moves leading to a strong sense of accomplishment. Additionally, pole dancing allows for artistic expression through dance and movement, providing a creative outlet. I can go on and on about the benefits as it truly is an amazing thing to do and I encourage anyone who is even slightly thinking about it to give it a chance.
For pole dance classes, wear shorts that expose your upper thighs, a tank top, and a sports bra if needed. If you are uncomfortable with having this much skin exposed, that's alright! At the end of the day you should wear what makes you feel most comfortable and confident! Having skin exposed helps with grip and helps you stay on the pole which is why the more skin the better! If you are pole dancing at home, I would recommend getting grip which is a liquid-based chalk that helps you get a better grip on the pole! I have linked on above, but you can also find one that suits you:) Most studios will also include on their website more specifically what you should wear such as heels to a choreography class, gloves, etc.
Pole dancing classes are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, body type, or fitness level. These classes strive to create a safe space where everyone feels respected and valued, encouraging all participants to support one another and celebrate each other's progress. While pole dancing has traditionally attracted a predominantly white, affluent demographic, there is a growing movement within the community to make it more inclusive and accessible to people from all backgrounds. These classes strive to create a safe space where everyone feels respected and valued, encouraging all participants to support one another and celebrate each other's progress. Communities such as the UC Davis Pole Dance Club and Pole+Dance in Berkley have both successfully created that diverse and inclusive space according to many students in Davis!
