Synapse formation and refinement during development and in disease

The McAllister Lab at UC Davis studies mechanisms of

synapse formation, refinement, and degeneration

in order to identify new approaches to

improve diagnosis and treatment

of brain disease

We utilize a wide range of in vitro and in vivo techniques to determine

how immune molecules regulate brain development,

and how immune dysregulation, especially following maternal infection,

results in neurologic and psychiatric disorders.

In our lab, we believe...

...that the most lasting and impactful discoveries are made in a supportive and

inclusive environment in which everyone feels the confidence to share their ideas.

We welcome differing perspectives, open dialog, and constructive criticism.

We value excellence, curiosity and fun.

We embrace failure and promote resilience.

We care about each other and the people who suffer from the diseases we study.

We welcome questions, critical thinking and eager learning.

We are committed to open dialog and social justice, and we actively advocate against bias and inequity.
