FAQ

After a law student completes the initial intake with you over the phone, they will complete your court forms. 

At the clinic, you and the law student will review the completed court forms, and then an attorney will conduct one final review to make sure everything is correct. 

Once reviewed and signed, we will also assist with the filing process if you are participating in person. 

With these forms, you will receive a court order which can be used to change all your legal documents (i.e. Social Security Card, Drivers License, Passport, etc.) 

We will also be more than happy to answer any questions about your gender and name change process during our clinic times! 

The clinic typically happens once a month during the school year. It is hosted on Fridays from 2-4 pm. See the "Current Info" page for upcoming clinic dates.

Our in-person clinic takes place at the Yolo County Superior Courthouse at 1000 Main St, Woodland, CA 95695. Please expect to go through courthouse security upon arriving.

The clinic is in the Self-Help Center/Family Law Facilitators room. To get there, go up to the second floor and find the first office on the left of the stairs (or to the right of the elevator bank as you come out of the elevator). 

We also offer Zoom appointments.

• A blue ink pen (if you don't have one, we will provide some)

• If you don't qualify for public assistance such as CalFresh, SSDI, MediCal, bring some information on your financial assets (current bank statement, information on your expenses, etc.)

• Driver's License or State ID

There is free parking around the courthouse on the street, but there's also a large lot a few blocks behind the courthouse on 525 6th St, Woodland, CA 95695.

The clinic is currently equipped to help anyone in California complete their forms remotely and we can try to provide suggestions on how to file in your county, though our knowledge may vary by region.
