For more information about office hours, see the FAQ below:
My office hours are all online via Zoom. When you join office hours, I will send you a quick sign-in form and then take your question. You can either read your question to me, or share your screen if it's on your computer. You can even email me a screenshot of your work if you need help identifying any errors in your solution. We will work through the problem together and make sure you understand the concepts as we go.
Sometimes there are just one or two students in my office hours, and sometimes it is a bit more crowded. When it's busy, I will circulate around the Zoom room and take questions from everyone.
My office hours are open to any current UC Davis student who is enrolled in any of these classes:
Algebra (such as MAT D or MAT B)
Precalculus (such as WLD 910 or MAT 12)
Calculus (MAT 16, 17, or 21 A/B/C)
Some of my office hours are reserved for students in specific classes, but my "open" office hours are for anyone in the above classes, whether you're in one of my co-classes or not!
You can get help with homework questions (you can even share your screen if you have a specific problem you are stuck on), other practice problems out of your textbook, and you can ask for clarification on anything you've seen in your math lecture but didn't fully grasp. And if you need tips on studying or general student success skills, I'm happy to provide advice on that, too.
Things that I cannot help with include quizzes, exams, or any assignment that your instructor has stated you must complete on your own.
Not at all, although you are welcome to. Some students come to office hours for just one specific question and then leave, and other students like to stay in office hours the whole time and ask questions when they run into a tricky problem. Whatever works best for you is fine with me!
Yes, I have a few individual appointment times available each week. You can schedule yourself for a time on my Calendly. Please try to limit your individual appointments to once per week unless we've discussed meeting more frequently (this is to ensure there are times available for other students).
You can also book an individual appointment with AATC math tutors through OASIS. Information about this process is available on the AATC website.
Yes! Other math specialists hold office hours for MAT students on campus. You should also check out the AATC Drop-In Tutoring in the lower level of Shields Library. Our student tutors are there to help you! See the AATC website for the drop-in schedule and math specialists' office hours.
