The Davis Alt. Protein Project—an initiative supported by The Good Food Institute—provides UC Davis students with a welcoming, inclusive space in which to discover how their interests and skills intersect with the needs of the alternative protein food industry and to plan future careers that will allow them to transform the future of food. The Davis Alt. Protein Project strives to build a healthy, sustainable, and just food system by creating a vibrant and robust community for alternative protein research and innovation at UC Davis. The group organizes industry visits, seminars, product tastings, technical/research discussions, community outreach, and many other activities focused on promoting interest in alternative protein. We define "alternative protein" as three distinct categories of food technology: Plant-based protein, recreating the component parts of meat using plants; Fermentation, growing microorganisms to produce food ingredients and biomass; Cultivated meat, cultivating genuine animal meat directly from animal stem cells.
I am one of the founders of the club, and I am currently a financial officers who is responsible for collecting and recording membership dues, shall maintain the organization’s agency account and complete all necessary deposits and withdrawals, and shall keep an accurate record of club expenses and disbursements and present regular financial reports to Officers. And, I have also been helping out with any activity of the club including making flyers, posters, drafting emails and managing the roster.
We organize monthly meetings to learn more about alternative proteins. We also prepare alternative protein food for members to try during those meetings. In the pictures, we had vegan meat and cheese. And, this is one of the flyers that I created.
This is one of our fundraising events. We had a great time hanging out together as well.
