The main thing that we do is to remove invasive plants like weeds so that native plants can have all of the space and nutrition that they need to grow. Besides that, we also do trail works making the trails safe for hikers and protecting sensitive habitat from being stepped on. I have learned that native plants are important because they do not need any pesticides to live. That means we can protect the soil. Native plants are also host plants for the whole life cycles of native wild species. Protecting native plants is the same as protecting biological diversity and the natural ecosystem.
We preserved and restored the natural habitat by systematically removing 750 square feet every 3 hours of weeds and carefully planting native plants.
After a few months of volunteering, I became a team leader to make sure volunteers be able to identify native plants and to ensure only weeds were being removed.
