Mrs. McKinney hosted a group of 5 boarders for an afternoon of baking at Grant House to kick off the Thanksgiving weekend. Students measured and mixed, chopped and enjoyed a made-from-scratch, chocolate cake with butter cream icing and apple crumble, a traditional Thanksgiving dessert. Special thanks to Principal McKinney and Mrs. McKinney for hosting this special event.
On Saturday evening, Nurse Leah and Ms. Jinha accompanied a group of 13 students to explore Chinatown and enjoy an all-you-can-eat hot pot dinner. Those who were experienced in hot pot techniques taught boarders who had never enjoyed dining with a table top hot pot where vegetables, meats and seafood are cooked in assorted and delicious broths. It was an evening of conversation, laughter and good food!
Families in the UCC community offered to host boarding students for Thanksgiving dinner this past weekend. For some boarders, Thanksgiving is a new tradition not observed in their home countries, and they got to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner and experience how their host family celebrates the holiday.
