The fall season is behind us, and tryouts for the winter teams are almost complete.
Late October saw many Prep teams vying for championships in the CISAA. The Under 12 cross-country team had an outstanding season and finished on top at the final meet on a blustery day. The Under 13 flag football team had an outstanding season in a Under 14 league, finishing with the bronze at the CISAA championship. This was the Prep’s second year with a flag football program, and it's been very successful and fun. The Under 13 soccer playoffs were extremely exciting or stressful, depending on your perspective. The Prep’s Under 13 B team upset their peers on the Under 13 A team to claim a spot in the CISAA final four. Sadly, the team lost two close games to finish 4th in the CISAA championship, but they have a great deal to be proud of.
The winter season is now underway. Tryouts are winding down, and some teams are beginning to play their first matches. The Under 13 Hockey team played at the SAC early bird tournament last week, and they are hosting five teams this weekend at the College.
The winter athletic season means tournaments for Prep teams. In addition to this week’s Prep hockey tournament, Under 12 basketball and hockey host invitational tournaments in early January. Over 20 teams will converge on campus the first week back from winter break, and we are always excited to host our friends from Quebec.
January 16 is Winterfest in the Prep School, and we will have a whole-Prep event in the rink. SK through Year 7 will cheer on the Prep Under 13 team as they battle the Under 14 team from the Upper School. Last year, the game ended in a tie!

The pool, courts and rinks are buzzing with activity as the winter season is now in full swing. Tryouts have occurred and rosters have been finalized, setting the stage for the Blues to put their best foot forward and experience another outstanding season of competition, hard work and friendship. It's never too late to get involved as swimming and rowing are both non-cut teams that run through the chilly months. With 16 different teams off and running, there is something for everyone at the College.
November highlights:
Under 14 cross country brought home the CISAA championship plaque. A truly impressive feat given the level of competition faced in a strong league.
UCC had three tennis players represent the College at OFSAA here in the GTA. Against some of the best players in the nation, UCC earned a bronze medal in the Open Boys Singles - truly impressive and hard-earned. Well done!
On Nov. 5, both the varsity football and soccer teams won silver in extremely close and well-played matches up in Aurora versus St. Andrew's College. They will be looking to take gold next fall.
Varsity basketball heads to Appleby to participate in the annual CAIS tournament. It will undoubtedly be an outstanding event with top level competition.
Our Under 15 and Under 16 AAA hockey teams travelled to Minnesota to play Shattuck St. Mary's - one of the top programs in North America.
Looking ahead:
Winterfest is Jan. 16. It's a day filled with sport, spirit and snacks so plan ahead. Games will begin in the afternoon and run into the evening.
UCC will be hosting 7 of the top basketball teams in the province for the inaugural Larry Lajeunesse basketball tournament on Dec. 17 and 18. This tournament is in honour of a great teacher, coach and friend and will be a great event for all involved. Please come and support the Blues as we honour coach Laj!.
