Boarding September 26, 2024
The inaugural UCC (Unplug, Contribute, Connect) Community Weekend was a great success, with enthusiastic participation from both students and staff, fostering strong bonds and meaningful connections within the boarding community. The weekend began with a community clean-up in the surrounding neighbourhood, where students collected an impressive 105 lbs of trash. Local residents expressed their gratitude, praising the students’ efforts and commending their character. After the clean-up, the first RAO Cup soccer event brought excitement, culminating in a thrilling overtime and shoot-out finish. The day concluded on a sweet note with an ice cream bar at the cafeteria.
The following day, students engaged in an adrenaline-filled paintball session, which quickly became a highlight of the weekend. The friendly competition sparked heated discussions about strategies, with teams enthusiastically debating tactics while sharing plenty of laughs. The intensity of the game and the camaraderie it fostered made for a memorable experience. Though the weekend was physically demanding, the boys remained in high spirits, and the event provided an exceptional opportunity for community bonding and growth. We are grateful for the unwavering support of staff and families who helped make the weekend a success!
The community cleanup was a great success. The boys were enthusiastic and got into the competitive spirit to see which house could collect the most amount of trash. In an effort to help more than just our immediate community the boys went to Charles Balfour and Deer Park. Several members of the community were excited to see us participating in this act of community service and stopped to chat about environmental issues and to comment on the good character and initiative demonstrated. The boys themselves became aware of the importance of their work as the cleanup proceeded and became quite passionate about collecting any piece of trash they saw, including areas that were not just the parks. Around 105lbs of trash was collected between both houses over the span of an hour and a half and the cleanup left a lot of boys more aware of their environmental footprint as well as their position as leaders in their communities.
The boarding students took to the turf for the first RAO Cup event of the year—a fan-favourite—Soccer. The boarders of both houses valiantly fought for the first house point in the RAO competition, and after a hard-fought match, Wedd's claimed victory and made the first mark on the RAO Cup standings. Who will be RAO Cup Champions this year? Will it be the reigning champs - Seaton's or will Wedd's make its come-back?
