Boarding September 19, 2024
A group of boarder volunteers dedicated their Sunday morning to help with the Terry Fox Run, which started and finished in front of the UCC clock tower. This annual tradition commemorates the cross-Canada 'Marathon of Hope' run by Canadian icon Terry Fox, and helps to raise money for cancer research. Boarders helped set up and take down for the event and also ran water stations on the course. The organizers commented on how valuable the boarders' help was in supporting the day of the run and informed us that UCC's site raised $275,000 for cancer research this year.
Think back to pre-COVID teenagers hanging out, board games, chatting, laughing, ball games, eating (lots of snacks, and later dinner), and making new friends. This is what we experienced at Branksome Hall on Saturday afternoon. It was absolutely heart-warming! Overall, a relaxing and fun afternoon and evening, ending with meeting their pet bunny. Some of our new friends even came over to UCC Sunday to watch our U15 Hockey team's first home game. Thank you Branksome Hall!
A group of boarders enjoyed learning how to iron their school uniforms from our wonderful Head of Housekeeping, Patricia! The boys were able to learn how to safely and properly use an iron, how to set up an ironing board and how to take care of their uniforms to limit wrinkles. Patricia also showed the boys how to use the laundry machine, and how to make each load efficient and effective. We're lucky to have experienced housekeeping staff supporting our students as they develop their independence and life skills.
