Over the course of the year, we will celebrate the diversity of our student and employee community and the different significant events that occur, including religious and cultural observances. Assemblies are a long-standing and beloved tradition at UCC — a time for students and colleagues to come together for learning, celebration and community-building.
During September at Prep and Upper School assemblies we honoured the multitude of celebrations that occur in autumn, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Thanksgiving. Students reflected on new beginnings, forgiveness, gratitude and highlighted shared themes of connection and community that we will carry across our school year. Warmest wishes as families come together to mark these significant occasions.
We hope to see you this Saturday! Don’t forget the following for A-Day:
☑ Plan to take transit, walk, bike or park off campus as there will be limited parking available.
☑ Bring pre-purchased dunk tank, BBQ lunch and snack shack vouchers or cash/debit/credit card to purchase on-site (no ATM).
☑ Wear UCC spirit clothing.
☑ Enjoy free ice cream and popcorn brought to you by Lome Irwin and PURPLEsFUL Snacking.
☑ Look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones!
Check out the campus map and A-Day schedule here and be sure to visit the indoor and outdoor A-Day events!
Please join us for our Fall Open House at the Norval Outdoor School on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Come enjoy an outdoor getaway with friends and family! Fall at Norval is a time of beautiful colours and lots of evidence of wildlife as most animals are preparing for winter.
UCC community members are welcome to come and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as visiting our apple orchard and making fresh apple cider, enjoying a fall hike with a scavenger hunt, pumpkin painting station and tree planting. Stephen House will be open with food and refreshments available.
Dogs on a leash are welcome (but must stay outside of Stephen House).
Please click here to register or email Amanda Vieira-Hasz in the Association Office or call 416-488-1125 ext. 2294.
Directions to Norval: Take Highway 401 west to Winston Churchill Boulevard. Follow Winston Churchill Boulevard north and go through the village of Norval. Continue straight ahead. The entrance to the Norval property is on your left, 1.2 kilometres north of the village stoplight. The drive takes about 50 minutes from UCC in light traffic.
Featuring Dr. Niobe Way
Nov. 26 | Prep School | 4:30–6 p.m.
The UCC Casey Fellows Program for Mental Health and Student Wellbeing brings experts in the field of wellbeing to UCC. We’re delighted to introduce Dr. Niobe Way as this year’s Casey Fellow. Dr. Way is an internationally recognized Professor of Developmental Psychology at New York University and the author and co-author of nearly a hundred journal articles and books.
This fall, the PPO and PO are co-hosting our Community Reads Book Club, featuring Dr. Way’s book Deep Secrets: Boys’ Friendships and the Crisis of Connection. Dr. Way delves into boys’ relationships with their friends and how these critical relationships can shift throughout childhood, adolescence and young adulthood.
Dr. Way will be at the Prep School on Nov. 26 for a book signing, from 4:30 to 5 p.m., and an in-person discussion, from 5 to 6 p.m. We hope you can join us.
