Boarding October 10, 2024
UCC boarders travelled downtown to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre to attend the annual Ontario University Fair. All 23 of Ontario’s universities were in attendance at the event. It was great one-stop shopping for boarders to meet admission staff, professors and students. Year 12 students are in the midst of applying to universities across Canada, the US, the UK and other countries where they can pursue post-secondary studies that best suit long-term goals. The deadline to apply to Ontario universities is mid-January, but the universities are now open to receive applications. Congratulations to all students who took time to investigate wonderful Ontario options this weekend.
Association Day Homecoming Weekend at Upper Canada College was a time of immense excitement and camaraderie for the boarding community. For these students, the weekend began with eager anticipation as they transformed their campus into vibrant displays of school spirit. Banners were meticulously designed, and spirited chants were practiced in preparation for the events ahead.
The boarding students' enthusiasm was palpable as they engaged wholeheartedly in the weekend's activities. They painted their faces with the school colours and wore their UCC jerseys with pride. They eagerly joined the "Blue Army," creating a formidable wall of sound to support their fellow classmates during the various sporting competitions. Whether it was cheering on the varsity football team with thunderous applause, rallying behind the varsity volleyball players with encouraging chants, or passionately supporting the junior varsity soccer squad, the boarding community's presence was felt and celebrated. Their cheers and applause were not just about the games but also about expressing their unwavering unity with their peers and school.
Throughout the weekend, the students didn't just passively attend events; they actively participated and made the most of their time. One of the standout moments was the memorable dim sum dinner, where animated conversations, inside jokes, and memorable stories were shared. It was a time for laughter and bonding that would be cherished for years to come. There was a sense of belonging that extended beyond the games, as students spent their free time organizing impromptu soccer matches, challenging each other to friendly competitions, or simply enjoying the company of friends both old and new.
As the official events wound down, the boarding community showed their knack for blending celebration and reflection. Late-night gatherings in common areas featured heartfelt conversations, games, and the strengthening of friendships. These were moments of laughter, shared dreams, and mutual support, where students embraced the chance to relax and connect on a deeper level. The informal get-togethers created bonds that would remain an enduring part of their UCC experience.
The weekend's poignant conclusion with the community soccer match, dedicated to an esteemed UCC alumnus who had recently passed away, saw the boarding students participate with great respect and remembrance. They didn't just watch from the sidelines; they played, they cheered, and they united as one to honor their fellow UCC community member. The match was a powerful reminder of the ties that bind the UCC community, and the students carried the spirit of that tribute with them beyond the weekend.
For the boarding community, Association Day Homecoming Weekend wasn't just a series of events; it was an immersive experience. Their enthusiastic participation, school spirit, and heartfelt engagement with every aspect of the weekend made it a time of deep connection and lasting memories. These experiences and connections continue to hold a special place in the hearts of boarding students, both during their time at UCC and for years to come.
