Boarding January 30, 2025
This past Tuesday the boarders celebrated Lunar New Year with feast, friendship and festivities at the boarding community dinner of 2025. The diverse menu was inspired by the cultural traditions of China, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Vietnam, ensuring that everyone was able to entice as much wealth as they could eat dumplings (and they ate a lot of dumplings!). The evening began with a brief introduction to some key traditions surrounding the festival from boarding staff Mr. Parry-Lai and Ms. Miu. Cantonese well-wishes were learned by a few of the boarders in exchange for some lucky red packets! Our students shared stories about how they celebrated Lunar New Year back home. From all of us here at UCC Boarding, we wish you a happy and prosperous year of the snake!
To celebrate Lunar New Year, our boarding program treated our boys to an all-you-can-eat hotpot experience, creating a warm and festive atmosphere, perfect for the chilly and gloomy weather. During the meal, we explored how hotpot differs across various provinces and countries, sparking lively discussions and cultural exchange. Dinner was followed by a shopping spree at T&T Supermarket, where the boys stocked up on their favorite snacks and treats that reminds them of home. It was a memorable day filled with laughter, delicious food, and cultural celebration!
As part of our Lunar New Year celebrations, our student Diamond led a Chinese calligraphy workshop, sharing his talents and passion with our boarding community. Students learned to write their wishes for the year ahead on vibrant red paper, a traditional symbol of good luck and prosperity. The workshop was filled with focus and creativity as students carefully crafted their messages, which ranged from aspirations for good grades to hopes for wealth and peace. These beautifully written wishes are now displayed outside their doors, adding a festive touch to the boarding community and setting a positive tone for the year to come.
